The Genetics Society of America continuously evaluates the needs of our community, including members from across career stages. The newly established Engagement and Professional Development Committee (EPDC)—comprised of early career scientists (ECS), mid-career and established faculty, and non-academic staff— will provide guidance regarding professional development programming to ensure GSA is offering timely and relevant career resources to the genetics community.

As our first project, we recognize that mid-career faculty are faced with multiple challenges, including competing priorities between service, teaching, and research. While our ECS community is well-supported, GSA’s mid-career professional members are also in need of continuing education and skills enhancement opportunities to continue advancing in their career. To support our mid-career community in their career development and ensure that they thrive, GSA’s EPDC developed the Resources for Mid-career Scientists webpage, a repository of resources recommended and curated by fellow Society members. At the end of each academic year, the EPDC will reach out to our community for resource submissions to ensure resources remain relevant and timely.

If you would like to provide feedback or suggestions for GSA’s professional development programs, reach out to EPDC Chair JoAnne Angebrecht at jengebrecht@ucdavis.edu. GSA will solicit applications annually in the Fall to join this and other committees in service of our genetics community.
