Awards & Funding

The program will fund an inaugural group of pilot projects at domestic doctoral-granting institutions, supporting approximately 100 PhD fellows. Fellows will complete two high-impact, hands-on research experiences—one at a DOE National Laboratory or DOE User Facility and one with an industry partner.

The two-year $75,000 fellowships are awarded annually to early-career faculty whose creativity, innovation, and research accomplishments make them stand out as the next generation of leaders.

The awards are the Society’s highest honor celebrating scientific achievement across career stages, from early career to lifetime achievement. Self-nominations are welcome and encouraged.

In this seminar, Schacherer will discuss how large-scale long-read sequencing and deep phenotyping of more than 1,000 natural Saccharomyces cerevisiae isolates provide new insights into the genetic basis of complex traits and missing heritability.

This $5,000 award recognizes a postdoctoral fellow or assistant professor for their outstanding achievements in the field of genetics as applied to neuroscience in Drosophila.

Any student completing a PhD in an area of Drosophila research between July 2025 and December 2026 is eligible.

This award helps support costs for undergraduates presenting their Drosophila research at the Annual Drosophila Research Conference.

The $1,000 award supports geneticists in their graduate or postdoctoral career stages by subsidizing participation in conferences and laboratory courses.
